Ceanothus - Californian Lilac

This is one of the best plants to have in your garden in our climate for the following reasons:

  • California Native Plant
  • Hardy and drought tolerant
  • Fixes Nitrogen in the soil (meaning it will fertilize plants around it). You can use the cuttings as “green manure”
  • Spring purple flowers are beautiful. They can be used for soap (just scrub the flowers between your hands with a bit of water).
  • Can also be used internally for healing under specific conditions
  • Probably the most beautiful Ceanothus
  • Acts as ground cover
Care instructions: Plant in ground. Not much care needed since it is adapted to our local environment. Pruning may be needed (do so in dry season preferably)
