Eggplants are warm season annuals, originally from India; however, several varieties are being used in traditional cuisines in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean Coast. With their purple-tinged green leaves and white and purple blooms, eggplants are ornamental enough to grow as a central piece in your garden. Harvest eggplants when skin is glossy and thumbprint will not leave an impression. Harvesting regularly increases production.
